Yes. Children, adults, and elderly passengers all need an ETIAS authorization to enter Europe starting from 2025. However, children and people aged over 70 have the extra benefit of being exempted from paying the ETIAS fee, meaning they can travel without having to pay to enter an ETIAS country. Please note that the parent or guardian should complete the application on behalf of the child traveler. If the child is traveling alone, they should get assistance at the airport during passport control.
There’s no official deadline, but you should apply for ETIAS well before your trip, at least four days before your flight. ETIAS applications are generally approved within minutes, and confirmation with the authorization is sent within 24 hours in most cases. Still, there can be cases where the system flags an application, and authorities must request additional documentation to corroborate the information provided by the traveler. In rare cases, officers will request a traditional visit to the embassy if they feel suspicious about the profile applying for ETIAS.
