Yes. Children, adults, and elderly passengers all need an ETIAS authorization to enter Europe starting from 2025. However, children and people aged over 70 have the extra benefit of being exempted from paying the ETIAS fee, meaning they can travel without having to pay to enter an ETIAS country. Please note that the parent or guardian should complete the application on behalf of the child traveler. If the child is traveling alone, they should get assistance at the airport during passport control.

There’s no official deadline, but you should apply for ETIAS well before your trip, at least four days before your flight. ETIAS applications are generally approved within minutes, and confirmation with the authorization is sent within 24 hours in most cases. Still, there can be cases where the system flags an application, and authorities must request additional documentation to corroborate the information provided by the traveler. In rare cases, officers will request a traditional visit to the embassy if they feel suspicious about the profile applying for ETIAS.

Congratulations on gaining an ETIAS authorization! This is just the first step of your trip, but it’s an essential one. Print your ETIAS in case your smartphone or pad runs out of battery. Once at border controls, produce your ETIAS along with your biometric passport – as the two documents are connected to each other – and additional documents, if you have or if the border officer requires them. Remember that the final decision to let someone into the country is always up to the border official, even if the person is holding an ETIAS. Therefore, act politely and respectfully as the officer checks your authorization and documents.
